South Atlantic Anomaly

The South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) is a region in the Earth's magnetic field where it dips down to an altitude of approximately 200 kilometers (120 miles). This allows cosmic rays and charged particles to reach lower into the atmosphere and exposes spacecraft in LEO to an increased flux of energetic particles and higher than usual levels of ionizing radiation.
